Welcome

Thanks to all who took part in another successful Charity Golf Day. I hope you enjoyed the day, which again this year was held in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

For the first time in 23 years, we welcomed an overall sponsor for the event and are extremely grateful to Star Sports for their presence and major contribution to the day. It was great to attract 51 teams to face our starter Charlie Fawcus. Thanks to everyone’s support, plus the added bonus of Star Sports and the display of racing colours, we have managed to push the final total of money raised to a record £21,500.

The course at Marlborough Golf Club was in the best ever condition — and at its most challenging yet. My thanks go to Les Trute the General Manager and his team of green and catering staff who were as welcoming and as cooperative as ever. The weather was good, if a little breezy, which helped provide a competitive event with the scores being remarkably level. Two teams finished with 92 points but with a better back nine Dan Tuck (professional from the Manor House at Castle Coombe) and his team – pictured on the back – fended off a strong challenge from the Sangster team from Manton. Prizes went down to 23rd place and were all generously donated by many local and prestigious golf clubs including Woburn (thanks to The Duke of Bedford) & Brocket Hall (thanks to yourgolftravel.com) as well as Wilson Golf. My thanks go to my great team of volunteer organisers: Charlie Fawcus, Bryan Mathieson, Les Trute, Barrie Reardon Smith, Alastair Baldwin, Cherry Ludley and Josh Apiafi. Also, on the day, Lisa Ward who ran the raffle, Pete Carter on the putting green and Malcolm and Sue Mitchell who provided the refreshments at the Half Way House. Also, to Richard Phillips who conducted the auction and as usual, Lady Oaksey and her team from the Injured Jockeys Fund were present supplying goody bags to all players.

See you again next year for a 24th time. I will be in touch again soon once the BHA fixtures have been released.
